Amnesiac

A quiet genius, is probably how I’d describe Neil Jordan, whose audiobook I was asked to record for Bloomsbury in the early summer of 2024. I’d seen his films – of course I’d seen his films – and they were captivating and beautiful from opening to closing credits. But if his filmmaking has a match, it’s probably his writing. His memoir is frank and engaging and the prose breathtaking – reminiscent of John McGahern’s. Throughout the recording, Neil was kind, courteous and utterly focused; I’ve never known anyone to make such lightning-fast artistic decisions. He was sure-footed, but incredibly modest in the process. I’ve enjoyed many highlights in my career and this was up there with the best of them. If you have any interest in film or in the life of the great Neil Jordan, I highly recommend Amnesiac, written and read by the man himself.
